Serena is the place to be for anyone craving Miami's signature electric vibe. We first visited during the opening of Moxy South Beach a few years ago, right in the midst of the bustling Art Basel period. So when the opportunity to return arose, we couldn't resist.

The vibrant rooftop restaurant channels the spirit of Oaxaca and Mexico City, blending traditional flavours with modern culinary twists. Designed by Saladino Design Studios, the space is a visual feast, inspired by the bright colours of Modernist Mexican architect Luis Barragán. The outdoor dining area feels like a lush indoor/outdoor garden, with a mesh of vintage and plush velvet sofas, cushions in hues of rich oceanic blue, rattan chairs, and modern furniture. Every corner is a riot of pink, orange, coral, and blue, creating an eclectic yet welcoming atmosphere. The domed cast iron canopy, strung with twinkling lights and draped in decorative vines and florals, adds a touch of charm that’s reminiscent of popular Mexican markets.

With lounge, bar and table seating throughout, Serena offers a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe that’s unlike any other rooftop in Miami. Whether you're stopping by for sunset cocktails, a leisurely lunch, or a buzzy brunch with live music, the expansive menu of shareable classic dishes with a modern interpretation of Latin and Mexican cuisine makes it the perfect spot for any occasion.

Serena is more than just a dining experience—it's a social affair that begs to be shared on Instagram. The stunning visuals are perfect for anyone looking to capture eye-catching moments, but the vibe is something unique. With resident and guest DJs spinning an irresistible mix of beats, the rooftop pulses with an infectious energy. The views are nothing short of breathtaking, giving you a full Miami experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or enjoying an intimate dinner with your beau, Serena sets the perfect scene, ticking all the boxes aesthetically. On certain nights, the energy amps up with entertainment, from captivating dancers to live music, adding that extra flair to get you fully immersed in the Miami vibe.

Dining at Serena

We kicked things off with the signature Serena Margarita, an invigorating blend of Herradura Silver Tequila, Ancho Reyes, sweet passionfruit, agave, and lime. The result is a beautifully balanced drink—tart, fruity, and just the right amount of heat, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the evening.

Next, we dove into the guacamole, paired with fresh tortilla chips and homemade salsa. This dish truly lives up to its reputation as the best guacamole in Miami. The smooth, creamy avocado is complemented by the bright, zesty citrus, while the homemade salsa adds a touch of spice that makes each bite refreshingly moreish. The portions, designed “para compartir” (to share), are ideal for 2-4 people, inviting everyone to indulge.

For a vibrant burst of flavours, the tuna tartare tostadas are an absolute must-try. The buttery tuna tartare, with its smooth texture, is elevated by the creamy avocado, while the smoky salsa negra and the zingy pickled mango add layers of depth. A touch of jalapeño aioli brings the perfect kick, making this dish a stunningly bold yet balanced explosion of tastes that looks as beautiful on the plate as it tastes.

For a heartier dish, Carne Asada is a carnivore's paradise. This perfectly seasoned 10oz NY strip steak is tender and juicy, offering a characteristic smoky aroma that is further enhanced by the earthy sides—red rice, black beans, and queso fresco. The peppers add a subtle heat, while the fresh flour tortillas wrap up the dish with a soft, pillowy finish, making each bite a savoury, rich adventure. Alternatively, the half chicken is tender and succulent, with a deliciously smoky and slightly charred kick, complemented by the earthy fingerling potatoes, sweet corn, and nutty sesame seeds.

When it comes to dessert, there’s no question—you must experience the churros and champurrado. These churros, golden and crispy on the outside, are soft and pillowy inside, coated in fragrant cinnamon sugar that perfectly contrasts the rich, velvety Mexican hot chocolate. The cream drizzle adds a luxurious, indulgent touch, making every bite utterly irresistible.

For those preferring something beyond cocktails, the bar offers a curated selection of premium tequilas, bourbons, and Mezcal. The smoky Mezcal, with its deep, earthy flavour, is perfect for sipping, while the bourbons, with their warming, caramel undertones, are ideal for a laid-back evening. No matter your preference, each drink complements the vibrant, flavourful experience Serena offers.

Serena isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience—a celebration of bold flavours, vibrant ambience, and the electric energy of Miami’s rooftop dining scene. Whether you're basking in the stunning views, sipping on a perfectly crafted cocktail, or indulging in dishes that bring the essence of Mexico to life, this spot checks all the boxes for a memorable night out. With its dynamic mix of music, food, and unbeatable atmosphere, Serena transforms dining into an event, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking to elevate their Miami experience.
