Moschino’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, helmed by Adrian Appiolaza, boldly celebrates the idea of community through fashion. The runway became a vibrant mosaic of subcultures, each group bonded by shared identities and a sartorial language that speaks volumes. Appiolaza explores how dressing alike isn’t just a fashion statement—it’s a reflection of kindred spirits, an unspoken bond woven into every outfit. With this collection, the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary, inviting us to rethink the relationship between clothing, individuality, and belonging.
The collection takes everyday objects and familiar silhouettes, turning them into an obsession. Tailoring is blown up and broken down; the classic black 'Tubino' dress is reinvented, merging with printed silk housecoats, while upholstery morphs into luxurious outerwear. Perhaps most striking are the parkas, made from shoelaces—a clever nod to the mundane being elevated to high fashion. Appiolaza’s playful approach turns sheets into flowing garments, literal blank canvases decorated with biro doodles, further blurring the line between everyday life and high art.
Throughout the collection, the freedom of youth and creativity finds its expression. Chalk drawings, originally sketched by Franco Moschino as a child, are graffitied onto black cotton tailoring, adding a sense of nostalgia and rebellious innocence. Drawing tools become whimsical earrings, while embroidery swatches cascade from shirts, creating a dialogue between creation and decoration. This sense of playfulness—both with clothes and concepts—is quintessentially Moschino, injecting irony and wit into every stitch.
A standout collaboration with Terry Jones, founder of i-D magazine, adds an extra layer of irreverence to the collection. Graphics like 'THINK TWICE' and 'WHAT’S UP!' play with words and ideas, in true Moschino fashion, blending Franco Moschino’s iconic wit with today’s cultural commentary. Guest appearances by iconic pieces from the legendary Judy Blame, whose punk sensibility and found-object creations resonate deeply with Moschino’s rebellious DNA, further enriching the narrative. The homage to Blame’s work feels both nostalgic and fresh, as archival pieces are remixed into trompe l’oeil prints and reissued in true Moschino style.
Iconography takes centre stage, with Moschino’s beloved symbols both celebrated and twisted. The Smiley face, the logo belt, and even Popeye and Olive Oyl make their appearance, reinterpreted with a punk edge. Pearls—once a hallmark of Franco Moschino—are reborn as punk-inspired harnesses, while polka dots spill from dresses onto bare skin, creating a sense of connection between past and present, and between Moschino fans who share the brand’s philosophy.
In Moschino’s world, fashion is not just about clothes—it’s about attitude. This collection is a testament to that ethos, where playfulness meets punk, and irony intertwines with iconography. Moschino’s Spring/Summer 2025 is more than a collection—it’s a statement about community, individuality, and the power of shared expression, reminding us that, like fashion, life is all about many attitudes.
