In this guide, we offer you a glimpse into the magic of the unique town, where history, luxury, and breathtaking Alpine vistas converge in this enchanting place. Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, Megève is where the charm of a bygone era meets the thrill of the slopes. As the sun bids farewell to our summer adventures, our sights are set on the snowy embrace of this timeless gem, eagerly awaiting your discovery.

Getting There: The Journey to Megève

Your gateway to this winter wonderland begins at Geneva Airport, a venerable institution steeped in aviation history since its inception in 1920.

Amidst its storied halls, luxury beckons with a Hermès boutique, offering a touch of indulgence for the discerning traveller. A swift one-hour and fifteen-minute drive through the majestic Alps promises views that will leave you spellbound as you approach Megève. This journey alone sets the stage for an experience that invigorates from the moment you step onto Megève’s snowy terrain.

A Legacy of Elegance: The Rothschild Connection

Megève’s allure as a luxury ski destination dates back to the early 20th century when Baroness Noémie de Rothschild envisioned it as the French answer to St. Moritz. In 1921, she established Megève as a ski resort, transforming a sleepy farming village into an exclusive retreat for Europe’s elite.

Today, the Rothschild family’s influence is still felt, with the town retaining much of its old-world charm and sophistication. Grand chalets dot the landscape, and the sophisticated ambience of the town blends the rustic beauty of the Alps with refined elegance.

The Rothschild legacy permeates Megève, from the architecture to the cultural touchstones scattered throughout the town. This heritage has ensured Megève’s status as a top-tier destination, where tradition and modern luxury coexist in perfect harmony.

No winter getaway is complete without the perfect ski attire, and for that, we turned to 66°North, a brand synonymous with luxury and comfort.

Established in the 1920s by Icelandic entrepreneur Hans Kristjánsson, 66°North was originally created to protect Icelandic fishermen from harsh elements. Over the years, it has evolved into a global icon of fashionable outdoor wear, seamlessly blending resilience with style.

On the slopes of Megève, 66°North’s attire not only kept us warm but also made a style statement. The brand’s commitment to quality and innovation ensures that each piece is both functional and strikingly stylish. Our selections, from eye-catching accessories to sleek thermal wear, turned heads and garnered compliments, enhancing our skiing experience with both flair and practicality.

For those who value both warmth and sophistication, 66°North’s collection of stylish ski jackets is a must-have. For women, the Keilir Lightweight Down Jacket worn by the magazine's Editor-in-Chief, is a revelation. Combining warmth with an effortlessly chic design, this jacket is perfect for those cold mountain mornings. The Keilir Jacket is crafted with premium down insulation, offering exceptional warmth without adding bulk.
